In a bit of good news today, it is being reported that 87 U.S. Senators have told U.S. President Obama to stand behind Israel. As weve reported over the past few weeks, there have been several visible displays for American support for Israel coming from Congress. Weve seen 75% of the U.S. House of Representatives supporting Israel as well as numerous politicians, celebrities, and others voicing their concern and support for Israel. The latest news comes from the Israel National News website and they report:
Further:
An overwhelming majority of the United States Senate has signed a letter to President Obama encouraging him to stand strongly behind Israel in the face of " challenges " to its international standing. The letter, written in the midst of a continuing international onslaught against Israel in the wake of the flotilla-Gaza blockade situation, emphasizes that it is in " our national interest to support Israel at a moment when Israel faces multiple threats from Hamas in Gaza, Hizbullah in Lebanon, and the current regime in Iran. "
After reading this article it is very reassuring that we have a country of elected leaders in Congress that support and show concern for Israel as she faces an unbelievable onslaught of international and anti-semitic condemnation in the world. It is simply unfortunate and tragic that Israel does not enjoy the same support from the Obama administration. I would like to further call on U.S. President Obama as well to support Israel at this pivotal time in their history. Israel has very few friends left in the world and the Lord has made it clear in Genesis 12:3 that he will bless those who bless Israel, and curse those who curse Israel. The decision to support Israel is one that the U.S. has long followed, but it appears that these days could be coming to an end as Obama continues to pressure Israel in the quest for an elusive Middle East peace treaty. A key measure and test of this support will be seen at the upcoming meeting in Washington on July 6 when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet again with U.S. President Barack Obama. Will the third time be the charm? Or will Netanyahu get another cold shoulder and third world dictator type state visit? Only time will tell and what we see could go a long ways towards forecasting future U.S.-Israel relations. Stay tuned on that situation.
The missive has been signed by 87 senators, and was spearheaded by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nv) and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky). " Israels opponents have developed clever diplomatic and tactical ploys to challenge its international standing, " the letter states, including " the effort to isolate Israel at the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference [and] the recent effort to breach the naval blockade around Gaza Israels naval blockade, which is legal under international law, allows Israel to keep dangerous goods from entering Gaza by sea. "
The issues of the Gaza flotilla crisis is still fresh in our minds. This brutal and deceptive attack on Israel was clearly an ugly display of Islamic hatred and anti-semitism towards Israel. And to imagine that these are the people that Israel is expected to make peace with? Anyone who has an eye to see can tell these people do not intend to make peace with Israel. The Middle East peace process is simply not possible given the political and military weight the Islamic terrorist groups have clamped on the " Palestinian " population at this time. With two terrorist organizations, Fatah and Hamas, running both the Gaza strip and the West Bank it is clear that peace is not on the agenda unless it is on their terms. And those terms do not allow for the continued existence of the Israeli state. The flotilla crisis has shown that the Islamists have a leg up on the Israelis in the public relations department as they have used the situation to bolster their cause and claims in the international court of opinion While Israel has slowly recovered from the initial shock of the Turkish flotilla, they have since made some headway in showing the world the truth about who and what was behind this tragic event. The public relations campaign concerning Gaza is a war that Israel cant afford to lose. Thankfully we can see that Israel is making progress on this front. With support from friends like the U.S. Congress, it is likely that Israel will overcome this satanically inspired attack against it.
Since the initial Turkish Gaza flotilla crisis, there have been several reports that other flotillas were being planned to further attempt to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza. The other flotillas were supposedly being sent by Iran and Lebanon. The Iranian flotilla was supposedly canceled but the flotilla from Lebanon has been mired in uncertainty. There was a report from Haaretz that claimed that Hezbollah and the Lebanese government were trying to stop the flotilla from setting sail. the article reported:
On the other hand, the YNetNews is reporting that the Lebanese flotilla will be setting sail form Cyprus and headed towards Gaza with the all " female " crew. The YNetNews article reports:
Beirut is working with the Hezbollah militant group to prevent humanitarian aid ships from sailing to the Gaza Strip, according to Lebanese press reports Thursday. Lebanese Prime Minister Said Hariri and Hezbollah - which also functions as an opposition political party - are trying to stop the boats from setting sail from local ports Thursday, the Arabic-language Al Liwa daily reported. Lebanese leaders fear that any new attempt to break Israels maritime blockade on the Gaza Strip could inflame tensions in the region, already high since Israel killed nine Turkish activists during a raid on an aid convoy on May 31, the paper said.
The article also went on to say that the timing of the flotilla to set sail was still unknown. YNetNews further reports:
" Be sure we will never give Israel such a gift as to fight them or to have Hezbollah with us or to have any political party with us, the spokeswoman for the organizers of an aid flotilla from Lebanon to Gaza told The Times in an interview published Friday. " We have diapers, a lot of diapers, we have milk, we have treatments for cancer in children and medical supplies and clothes. If they fight we will not defend ourselves, " Semir El-Hajj said. The hundreds of female volunteers planning to set sail to the Hamas-ruled territory aboard the ship " Mariam " deny allegations that the flotilla organizers are connected to Hezbollah, the Lebanese terror group linked to Iran. " Our only weapons are faith in the Virgin Mary and in humanity, " said Rima Farah, one of the activists.
This off and on conflicting reports of flotilla launches is quite alarming. The article also noted that the flotilla was to set sail with a much larger group of ships than the initial flotilla. It could be that the flotilla organizers are trying to catch the Israelis with their guard down as well as to sow confusion on the whole event. I would not doubt that at all as the flotilla was originally scheduled to arrive this weekend. The article also noted that several of the Palestinian " troublemakers " from the previous flotilla will also take part in the one from Lebanon. To further add a high profile to the flotilla event, it is being reported that former South African leader Nelson Mandela could participate in the event but he has yet to confirm.
It remains unclear when the convoy will depart. Egyptian newspaper Al-Shorouk quoted a member of the International Movement Against Globalization and the American-Zionist Hegemony as saying that the " Freedom Flotilla 2 " will consist of five ships from France, six from Germany and one from Lebanon. According to movement, which is based in Egypt, the vessels are expected to begin the journey to Gaza on July 15 under the banner " The Shahid Mohammad al-Dura, " referring to the 12-year-old Palestinian boy who the Palestinians claim was killed by the IDF during a furious exchange of fire with Palestinian gunmen in Gaza in 2000. The movements representative added that activists from several countries, including Egypt, Ireland, Alegrira and some Gulf states will take part in the sail.
The stage for more trouble is currently being set again in the Middle East. This time it will meet a very different Israeli response. There will be no more " paintball " guns and the Israeli commandos will not be caught unaware by deceptive tactics as they have been studying the previous flotilla incident and have made adjustments to plans as a result. Whether this flotilla results in a similar incident like the one that took place earlier remains to be seen. One thing is certain and that is the Islamists will try with all their ability to cause another stinging blow to Israel on the world stage. This situation goes back to the public relations war that Israel simply cant afford to lose. Hopefully this time we will see a different result. Stay tuned!
God bless.
